The Experience

You'll begin a full safety briefing before an experienced river guide takes you for a ride down some of

Britain's best white water. Enjoy the ride of your life as you and your crew steer an inflatable raft through the breath-taking twists, turns and drops of this demanding but enjoyable river run. The white water grading system goes from 1 (relaxed) to 6 (too rough to offer commercially) - as a guide, the centre in Wales is graded 3 / 4.

Vital Information

Minimum age is 12 years old

Maximum weight is 115kg/18st

Maximum chest size is 130cm/51in

All participants must be able to swim at least 25 metres

Please contact the centre a few days before your booked date to double check water levels

All safety equipment and tuition is included.

The Weather

Rafting operates in most conditions but may be affected by extreme weather conditions or flooding.

Session Length

Your experience will last around two hours and includes four runs of the river. Please ensure that you arrive 30 minutes prior to your start time to sign in and change.

Numbers

Your raft holds your group of seven people plus a qualified instructor.

Spectators

Spectators are welcome.

What To Wear

Bring swimwear and a towel.

You WILL get wet, but there are hot shower facilities at the venue.

Buoyancy aid and helmet will be supplied.

If you wear glasses, remove them or firmly secure them.

Availability

Sessions are available from Monday to Friday, outside of school holidays from January – October, subject to water releases by the local river authority.

White Water River Rafting Group Session in Wales: Fun Facts

White water rafting started accidentally in the mid 1800s. It's said that Major John Wesley Powell, whilst exploring a river system, ran into the wild rapids of the Colorado River running through Glen Canyon in Utah and the Grand Canyon in Arizona. In spite of the expedition's fragile wooden boats and lack of safety equipment Powell made it through the 'white water' - a fitting testimony to the courage of the pioneers of the American West. And the first recorded incidence of this great sport. However the big surge in river running began 100 years later. In the 1950s World War II rubber pontoon bridges were used as the bases for massive rafts. Gradually these crafts evolved into rubber rafts of all sizes useful for running all types of rivers. The 1970s saw the sport grow dramatically, first in the USA and then wherever in the world there was an exciting stretch of river to run. Today, rigid safety standards among the operators ensure that this extremely exciting sport can be enjoyed in confidence.
