The Experience
Your session starts on dry land with a safety check and outfit fitting. You'll get kitted out in a wetsuit, buoyancy aid and helmet before heading down to the water's edge.
Once down by the river, your instructor runs through a basic safety briefing. They'll teach you the essential paddle strokes and show you what to do if anyone happens to fall in. You'll then get straight into your private raft as a group of six.
As you head out onto the course, you'll start on calmer water to get used to paddling in sync. The pace picks up quickly as the river narrows, throwing you straight into fast currents and sharp drops. You'll need to listen to your instructor's callouts as you work as a team to steer around obstacles and keep the boat steady through the rough patches.
The session gives you plenty of time to tackle the river's main features, usually running the main course multiple times so you can line up different routes. By the time you pull back onto the bank, you'll be soaked, tired and ready for a hot shower.
