This gentle cruise brings together afternoon tea and scenic estuary views.
The afternoon tea barge sail offers a relaxed way to explore the Blackwater Estuary while enjoying a traditional afternoon treat. Your journey begins at Maldon Quay, where your guide welcomes you and explains the route.
The barge moves at a steady pace past Northey Island before travelling towards Osea Island, and each part of the sail reveals a different view of the shoreline. The calm setting allows you to enjoy the surroundings at an easy pace while the estuary unfolds around you.
During the trip, you are served warm scones with cream and jam, homemade cake and a hot drink of your choice. The peaceful movement of the barge adds to the experience and helps you settle into the moment.
You may also explore the gallery below deck, which displays photographs and documents linked to the barge’s long history. This small feature adds depth to the day and offers an interesting break between views.
The route includes sights such as Heybridge Basin, the Blackwater Canal and the colourful huts at Mill Beach before the barge returns to Maldon Quay. Drinks are available to purchase on board, and the crew provides support throughout the sail.
